#gettyinspired

every time i visit the getty i am overwhelmed by the beauty - the art, the architecture, the garden, the view. a few years ago, dance camera west gave me the opportunity to create a piece specifically for the outdoor space. inspired by the interplay of water and architecture, it was a joy to choreograph three dances for such an iconic la landmark. i am honored to be featured on the getty's website for their #gettyinspired campaign: http://www.getty.edu/inspired/kitty-mcnamee/ please take a moment to check it out!

hysterica OG

ok...these beauties make me so happy. it may seem counter-intuitive but watching this madness makes me very calm. i knew my choreography was in such good hands with these fine folks (hunter hamilton, austin westbay, tara brook, andy acosta, lou becker, stephen hernandez and the remarkable nina mcneely) that i could try just about any crazy thing and it would be stunning on them.

ryan heffington and i created "crust" together for hysterica dance co. (the pieces in the link below were choreographed by me). he worked some incredible magic with the costumes and styling and was the ultimate collaborator.

i'll never regret the blood, sweat and drama that went into creating with hysterica...ultimate risk and ultimate fulfillment.

special thank you to baseck for the stellar track, eliot lee hazel for the remarkable images and edge performing arts center for years and years of free rehearsal space.

here is a bit about the show:

With all original concept, choreography, and stage/costume design, the story of LILIT physically cross-examines historical gender contradictions and amplifies ancient female howls through a deafening channel of thrashing virtuosity. Her story takes shape in the edgy silence of a hovering unmarked enemy. She is the folkloric assignment unseen female forces and the answer to otherwise inexplicable phenomena among men.

training beautiful dancers

i've been fortunate to have had some amazing dancers come through my class and my rehearsals over the years...this is what i see in the best of them:

  • bravery-they are willing to take risks.
  • passion-their love for dance shines through the pain and sweat.
  • persistence-their passion drives them through the challenging times-never give up.
  • rebellion-the strength to challenge convention separates the great from the good.
  • individuality-my favorite quality! you'll need both bravery and rebellion for this one!
