super excited to share my new choreography reel!
Wing on Wing, composed by Esa-Pekka Salonen, celebrates Frank Gehry's creation of Disney Hall! The score is as magical and heroic as the building itself. I've loved re-envisioning the dramatized production that Jessica Kubzansky and I created to bring the sound, building, orchestra and story to life for Toyota's Symphony for Youth.
Here's to a life in the arts!!!

BEHIND THE SCENES
the making of LA TRAVIATA
From the first day of taping down the rehearsal space, to costumes, stagehands constructing the set, dancers, singers, to the buzz and excitement of opening night, photographer J Kat documented the behind the scenes experience of the making of La Traviata.
Enthusiastic, creative and energetic, Katarzyna Woronowicz, Kat for short, is a generous collaborator!
Born in Warsaw, Poland, Kat immigrated to the United States in 1983. Clearly grateful to be doing what she loves, her infectious joie de vivre is capturing the moment in a unique and fresh way. Provoking thought. Inciting a grin. Moving the heart. I owe a big THANK YOU to Kat for the warm memories and rare photos of me at work!

My love affair with music continues. Add extraordinary contemporary composers and dancers to the mix and I'm in heaven. Some time ago, feels like just yesterday yet so much has happened since, Dancescape LA asked me to create a piece for a performance benefiting dance education.
How could I say no? Sometimes the work that comes out of giving - no expectation of a gig or external reward - is in the end the MOST rewarding. It takes me back to my roots (Hysterica Dance Co.) and reminds me of why I started making dance in the first place...to generate beauty, connect with my peers and contribute something worthwhile to society. Getting a little heavy here but it's so true.
Thank you, Thank you to the incredible Missy Mazzoli for allowing me to work with her music. And a big kiss to the startling Kelsey Landers, Kenzie McClure, Baden Silva and Derek Tabada for the love and inspiration. Thank you to edge performing arts for allowing us to create in your beautiful space!

Two short films...both helmed by female directors will be premiering in festivals this month. I have to say that i was inspired by both. Very different experiences, the focus on the feminine experience uniting them both. Thank you to Anna Biani, Thank you Aldona Kwiatkowski. Thank you Nicole Disson.
our AMAZING team...nearly all female created this film celebrating International Women’s Day. She’s Mercedes tells a story of feminine energy and female unity, envisioning a utopian community based on diversity, warm fellowship and a regal attitude, starring Malaysian musician Yuna.

balance is critical to beauty.
balance of dark and light. humor and depth. i've enjoyed working hard (also a balance) with some beautiful people along the way.
here is a sneak peek at my beautiful new 'music video' reel / thank you Kim Gouveia!!
COLLABORATION IS KEY!
Choreographing The Wheel for Hysterica was a kinetic adventure! Collaborating with artist/designer Lara Schnitger truly expanded my way of thinking about structure, movement and design.
Friend and collaborator Diana Koenigsberg captured the creativity in a one of a kind photo shoot featuring choreography, design and performance with dancers Reshma Gajjar, Andy Acosta, Hunter Hamilton, Marlon Pelayo, Justine Clark and Tara Brook.
COLLABORATION IS KEY!
RIFT - we are deep, deep within the collaborative process. enjoying every moment of creating a new work for full orchestra and six dancers. it's a gift to find a true artist who is interested in your process as well as her own, who's generosity is profound.
here is a little sneak peek into rehearsals @ edge performing arts center while anna clyne was in town for a premiere at LA Phil's Cello Festival. anna provides insight into composing and collaborating as well.
More to follow...if you happen to find yourself in Santa Cruz on August 5 - don't miss us on the opening night of Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music.
Power & Devotion, Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music has announced it's Opening Night concert on August 5. The opening will feature the thrilling world premiere of a symphonic ballet titled RIFT. A Festival commission, the work is a collaboration between myself and composer Anna Clyne. I recently visited Santa Cruz to meet with staff and explore staging possibilities at the Civic Auditorium.
Anna and I have been filming during our creative process. We’re sharing our first short video about RIFT, which gives background on the piece, and describes our progress to date. It's a very exciting project, and we are happy to share it with you now!
every time i visit the getty i am overwhelmed by the beauty - the art, the architecture, the garden, the view. a few years ago, dance camera west gave me the opportunity to create a piece specifically for the outdoor space. inspired by the interplay of water and architecture, it was a joy to choreograph three dances for such an iconic la landmark. i am honored to be featured on the getty's website for their #gettyinspired campaign: http://www.getty.edu/inspired/kitty-mcnamee/ please take a moment to check it out!
thrilled to be returning to the la phil to direct and choreograph the upcoming "Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" and Britten's "Sea Interludes" such GORGEOUS MUSIC and beautiful LA dancers bringing it to life for me!

AXIOM Dance Theatre
Thursday-Saturday, November 20-22, 2014, 8PM
Inner City Arts, 720 Kohler St, Los Angeles, CA 90021
here is a bit about the show:
With all original concept, choreography, and stage/costume design, the story of LILIT physically cross-examines historical gender contradictions and amplifies ancient female howls through a deafening channel of thrashing virtuosity. Her story takes shape in the edgy silence of a hovering unmarked enemy. She is the folkloric assignment unseen female forces and the answer to otherwise inexplicable phenomena among men.
